Situated on a stunning suburban campus designed by Charles Boccara, in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, The American School of Marrakesh is a college-preparatory K-12 independent school. It was founded in 1995 by Joseph A. McPhillips III, Headmaster of the American School of Tangier for thirty-five years. Mr. McPhillips intended ASM to be a model institution, reflecting not only his personal belief in education but a belief in the Kingdom of Morocco and in Marrakesh in particular. Maintaining our traditions of excellence and embracing both Marrakesh and Morocco all remain at the heart of our way of life. We were founded on and remain committed to several immutable principles, namely respect for classical education, a belief in one's self and the benefits of community, and a desire never to be an imitation of another school or institution. These principles have guided us since our founding and are deeply imbedded in our curriculum, way of life, and interactions with one another. ASM teachers are bound to their students by the belief they have in their potential. From its founding, the American School of Marrakesh devoted itself to developing each student's individual potential to its fullest. We maintain our belief that our students can achieve personal greatness, even as we understand that this greatness is individually interpreted and defined. Our graduates attend the finest universities in North America and Europe, having completed a demanding course of study. Every student at ASM becomes confident and competent in English, French and Arabic, science, mathematics, history, the arts, physical education and a variety of focused elective offerings such as political science and cinema studies. All of our students embrace their place in the life of Marrakesh and the Kingdom of Morocco. Please visit our campus and see us for yourself.
